Position: Youth Camping Crew Member (ages 16-18) Location: Based out of Lake Wenatchee, WA, but local housing is not needed as crews camp together for their entire session. Project locations generally include national forests and parks throughout the state of Washington. Dates: Session 1: June 24, 2023 - July 22, 2023 *The 1st session crew is currently on a waitlist. Applications are still encouraged, but all will be considered for a position on the waitlist until further notice.* Session 2: July 29, 2023 - September 2, 2023 QUESTIONS/CONTACT : Emily Siegel, Member Services Coordinator: XXXX@nwyouthcorps.org Position Details: Northwest Youth Corps is currently recruiting for many paid summer positions. If you are looking to gain more experience for your future career, Northwest Youth Corps has a spot for you. The challenge and simplicity of weeks spent working outside on meaningful conservation projects will give you the chance to gain perspective, learn new skills, meet new friends, and discover new opportunities. Build your future with Northwest Youth Corps A Better You : Earn money and potential school credit while gaining job skills and professional references needed to build your resume. Meet new people and build physical and mental strength while spending weeks immersed in the Northwest's wildest places. A Better Planet : Spend 4-5 weeks working on conservation projects such as tree planting, fuels reduction, invasive plant removal, trail construction, and fencing. Play a vital role in improving our public lands and the environment. Benefits/Tuition: Receive up to $1,665 ($333 per week) for participation in this service-learning program plus an additional $250 ($50 per week) in bonuses. Bonus amounts are based on reliability and safety. Participants also have the potential to earn high school credit for their time. There is a tuition cost for this educational program of $240 (4-week program) or $300 (5-week program) with scholarships available based on need. Hours: Though schedules can vary, most crews will conduct project work Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, crews will stay together to conduct resupply, shower, do laundry and participate in recreational activities (e.g., hike). During the week, crews will have a 30 minute lunch break as well as several rest/water breaks throughout the day. Required qualifications: -Proof of U.S citizenship or legal residency -16-18 years old -Ability to hike several miles and be on foot for up to 8 hours per day -Able to camp for the entirety of the session away from modern conveniences (i.e. phones, electronics, etc.) -Positive mental attitude, willingness to learn, and a team player -Desire to conserve natural spaces and make an impact on the environment -Ability to follow safety protocols Northwest Youth Corps is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Our core purpose is to provide opportunities for youth and young adults to learn, grow, and experience success.
